Bbukes, officially known as the Free City of Bbukes (Lake Kencari: Bburie Bau Bbukes ha), unofficially also as the Free City of Pearyt, is a small city state on the continent of Smalik, bordering Lake Pearyt, from which the city derives its Ingallish name. The state was founded on 24 October 318 when armed Kencari middle class traders took control of the city and proclaimed independence from the Lectern of United Kencari Peoples (LUKP), following the latter's increasing instability and its government's inability to rule the country.

Geography and climate
Bbukes borders the Western Shore in the north and Kencari in the south, with both nations meeting each other in at Bbukes's western border. In the east, Bbukes borders Lake Pearyt. The country's surface is part of the hills on the east side of the Strywak Mountains, the most notable mountain range in the southwestern part of Smalik. Towards the lake, where the main parts of the city are located, the surface is lower and suitable for the harbour that makes Bbukes one of the more important trading places around the lake.

Bbukes has a temperate oceanic climate with mean temperatures between 0°C / 32°F in winter and 22°C / 72°F in summer.

History
The area in which Bbukes is located used to be part of the plains of central Smalik. An earthquake in 325 BP caused the collapse of an underground river however and the subsequent creation of Lake Pearyt. The city of Pearyt was founded by Ingallish settlers some 400 years later, in the first century after the Plague, but Kencari settlements had been present in the area long before that.

As Lake Pearyt was located in the centre of the former nation of Bowdestra, the city of Pearyt was developed as a hub with many ferry services to other harbours around the lake. Pearyt briefly grew in importance when the Ingallish inaugurated the new capital city Sky City in the west of the country in 235 AP, but the invention and spreading of the use of aircraft to get to other parts of the country (which had been renamed to Bowdani by then) caused the ferry business to decline. Pearyt's importance was however maintained by its strategic location on the route from Sky City to Port Frontier (present-day Lp in Tak).

On 16 October 316 AP Bowdani was dissolved into several smaller nations. Pearyt became part of the largest of these, the Lectern of United Kencari Peoples (LUKP). The LUKP proved however instable and ethnic clashes between the Ingallish rulers and the indigenous Kencari soon escalated, despite attempts by the first to include Kencari in the nation's government. Especially in South Watch and around Fort Boare the situation all but developed into a civil war. Violence emanating from Fort Boare regularly spread to Pearyt. A large explosion on 17 April 318 destroyed half of the city's centre. After attempts by the government of the LUKP to bring order in the nation failed, a cascade of independence declarations followed from October 318 on, with middle class traders proclaiming the independence of the city of Pearyt as Bbukes on the 24th. This action was not coordinated nor approved by the ruling Ingallish dominated city government, which tried to oppose the move. After five days, a violentless coup d'état kicked the old government out of office, and the city council elected Kavuss Baetisim as the new Mayor.

Demographics
Bbukes had an estimated number of 950,270 inhabitants on 1 January 324. The official language is Lake-Kencari, although a not unsubstantial part of the citizenry speaks Ingallish as their first language.

Politics
The government of Bbukes is formed by the Mayor and the City Councillors, who are elected every four years in democratic elections. Shortly after the city was declared independent, the incumbent city government (which had not been part in the declaration of independence) was voted out of office and replaced by a Kencari dominated government.

The legislative of Bbukes is the City Council (the members of which are called Council Members to distinguish them from the Councillors, which is what the members of the city government are called.

Recent Mayors of Bbukes have been:
313 - 318 now Sidwell Marcior (two terms; deposed)
318 - 323 now Kavuss Baetisim
323 - now 328 Strigioda Ggaurun (OPB)

Political parties:
- OPB (Ortudaks Parti Bbukes ha, 'Orthodox Party of Bbukes')
- PBB (Parti ppe Baugadawi laem Bbukes ha, 'Bbukes's Citizens Party')
- PK (Parti Kima laem; 'Solidarity Party')
- PS (Parti Sitautes laem; 'Labour Party')

Economy
Bbukes is trying to redefine itself as a transit nation and is seeking to invest in the infrastructure to make that possible. Among other projects, the city government has planned to construct a new international airport which they intend to make one of the largest of the continent.
